Mansalaar Island, The Movie Shooting KING KONG in Tapanuli

Mursala or Mansalaar Island is the largest island owned Central Tapanuli, located in the southwest town of Sibolga and entered in the District of Tapian Nauli. The island is located between Sumatra and Nias Island. Wide Mursala approximately 8,000 ha and can be reached in 1 hour by fast boat from Sibolga, or about 3 hours when using a regular boat.






In this island there is a waterfall that is so unique, that Niagara Mursala. This waterfall has a sense of fresh and salty. Mursala waterfall is one of the few waterfalls in the world straight into the sea.

Behind the charm, Mursala waterfall also has its own legends that developed in the surrounding community. That said, this waterfall is a place to play a beautiful princess named Princess Runduk. the Princess has a shower above a waterfall where the waterfall is flowing. Well, who is that princess Runduk? According to the story, Princess Runduk is the consort of King Jayadana who ruled the Kingdom City "Barus Raya" Kingdom, an Islamic empire in the North Sumatra region in the 7th century. Princess Runduk has a beautiful face so renowned through out the kingdom. 

Mentioned that King Sanjaya of Mataram and King Janggi of Sudan, Africa was interested in the beauty of the princess. Princess Runduk can get Mursala because flee the country that has been ravaged attacked and occupied by King Sanjaya, which is then captured by King Janggi. Pincess Runduk's husband killed and The Princess did not want to be married by King Sanjaya, among others because of religious differences (Princess Runduk is Muslim than King Sanjaya is Hindu). It is also claimed that the Princess to throw themselves into the sea while being chased King Janggi, then disappear.


Another uniqueness owned Mursala waterfall is a waterfall that is derived from the world's shortest river flow. Besides the natural beauty of Indonesia appealed to the Hollywood movie makers to use it as a location for filming, one of the film King Kong (2005). This film takes place in Mursala, Central Tapanuli, North Sumatra province, who described the island as a horrible place full of ancient animals.

There are several attractions that are not less interesting in Mursala besides the beauty of the waterfall, among others: 

- Jambe Island: the shallow waters consisting of coral reefs and various species of fish - Gulf Labuan Hunik: an ideal spot for diving and snorkeling 

- Na Menek Silabu island: there is a bird-shaped rock that protrudes at an altitude of about 70 meters above sea level on a steep shore which is called the Stone Garuda, there are also natural Bonsai Red Pinang over steep rocks 

- There is a lagoon with white sand beaches that are attached between Silabu island-squash Na Na Godang and Kalimantung Na menek Island 

- Puti Island: there is a beautiful white sand beach with shallow waters and fascinating underwater life.
